Depression and Alcoholism
Depression is a treatable illness that is characterized by extended
periods of extremely sadness and hopelessness. Many people who suffer
from depression turn to alcohol as means to solve their problems
and find that they become addicted to alcohol and are still depressed.
When these two symptoms coexist with one another it becomes difficult
to characterize each illness separately. Research has shown that
by treating the alcoholism first the symptoms associated with depression
diminish greatly. Once alcohol has been removed from the system
it becomes easier to deal with the underlying problems.
Depression and alcoholism are both serious problems
and should not be taken lightly. In order to recover from these
illnesses proper treatment must be sought. Alcoholism accompanied
by depression is a recipe for giving up on life and ultimately leads
to suicide.
